34 North created visualizations for the proposed restoration plans for the Calaveras River. Using a combination of NAIP Imagery, 3-D Nature Studio our technicians were able to simulate the outcome of the proposed simulation.
The action proposed in the BO is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) (Sacramento District) continuing long-term operations at the New Hogan Dam and Lake Project in accordance with the Water Control Plan, consisting of the Flood Control Diagram and portions of the Water Control Manual, as it has since 1964. The Corps operates the dam for flood control and water supply purposes. Flood control operations by the Corps occur when the storage in New Hogan Lake exceeds the flood control space required at any particular time as determined under the authorized Flood Control Diagram. New Hogan Lake has a storage capacity of 325,000 acre-feet at gross pool. The Corps determines the flood control releases when the project is in flood control mode and the Stockton East Water District (SEWD) determines the municipal and irrigation releases during non-flood periods. Rights to releases from New Hogan Dam are contracted for by the SEWD and the Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) through the Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). Thus, water contracts are managed by the Bureau for municipal and agricultural uses (Stillwater Sciences 2000).
